About

Bella Groove is a band led by Elise Walsh – vocalist, flautist and composer.

“A jazz singer and flautist with warmth and depth” (Beat Mag), Elise commands a broad repertoire of Jazz standards and originals, including some Blues, Soul, Bossa and Pop thrown into the mix!

As a performer

Elise has been a performer since the age of 10, with initial training at the Young People’s Theatre, Newcastle.

Elise was formally trained on the flute from the age of 11. She studied classical flute at the Newcastle Conservatorium and studied vocal and instrumental jazz with the Sydney Jazz Action Society, Bud Shank Jazz Workshops and pioneer free jazz vocalist, Jay Clayton (West Coast, USA) as well as the Sydney Conservatorium.

In her adult career, Elise has performed at various venues and private functions in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra including Port Townsend (USA). Elise is now living in Canberra.

Song writer-composer

With an eclectic appreciation of many styles of music, Elise’s original music blurs the lines between traditional and contemporary jazz, soul, pop, and rock. Elise has independently released a debut jazz album called City Lights in 2017 and a live recording at Smith’s Alternative (Canberra) in 2021 – available on all music streaming platforms.  Elise is in the process of collaborating with renown local musicians to create a 2nd album of original music.

As a writer

As a creative person, Elise also finds an outlet in creative writing. Whether it’s lyrics to a song, flowing prose, and short stories it’s an expression of her life experiences.
