Out now – City Lights
City Lights is the debut jazz album for Bella Groove.
Conceived by Elise Walsh (composer, vocalist and flautist), the album has been described as an eclectic mix of originals and jazz standards.
The album includes some standards that range from upbeat swing to a beautiful ballad by Coltrane. Her flute playing is showcased on the track, Serenade to a Cuckoo by Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
The journey finishes with a soul number that leaves you bumping to the beat as you queue it up for another play.
The highights of the album have to be the original tracks.
With each listening you pick up something new – a cool guitar lick, a tasty piano chord or a moaning slide on the bass. The whole band are truly fine musicians, their talent shows in the music.
The originals represent a different aspect of Elise’s influences and taste. Full of catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics.
We hope you enjoy listening to City Lights many times.
.. led by vocalist and flautist Elise Walsh, a reminder that this city was once a serious contender for the title of jazz capital.
… some seriously good playing, too, from some seriously good players.
